Management Team

  • Paul Leung – Chairman, President and CEO
    Paul Leung is the founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Empower Technologies. Supported by more than 15 years experience as an entrepreneur and executive in the technology industry, Mr. Leung found success for Empower Technologies and their first product offering of LEOs®, a unique and versatile operating system for Palm.

    A proven visionary and entrepreneur, Mr. Leung founded Amipo Electronics Manufacturing Ltd., which provided North American companies, and start-ups with discounted local and offshore engineering and manufacturing services for high tech products. Prior to Amipo, he also founded Perfax Systems Corp. who was engaged in the business of developing fax and data modems.
    Mr. Leung holds a Bachelor's degree with a major in accounting and computer science from Simon Fraser University in British Columbia.

  • Peter Ballachey – Chief Financial Officer
    Mr. Ballachey has been a financial executive and advisor to many organizations across varying industries. From 2004 to 2006, Mr. Ballachey was the Chief Financial Officer of Railpower Technologies Corporation, a successful Vancouver company in the field of locomotive engine technology. Railpower Technologies Corp. is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange and raised over $120 million in equity during his time with that company. In 2002 and 2003, Mr. Ballachey was the VP of Finance and CFO of BC Rail, then an enterprise with revenues of approximately $450 million, where he was involved in improving the operating profit and the disposition of significant assets. From 1989 to 2002, Mr. Ballachey held various executive positions with Canadian Pacific Railway, most recently as Director of Internal Audit.

    Mr. Ballachey holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from York University . He is a Chartered Accountant and Certified Internal Auditor.

  • Amy Chan – VP, Operations and General Manager
    Ms. Chan, the co-founder and a director of Empower Technologies. With over ten years of experience in financial management and cost accounting in the technology and manufacturing industries, has been a part of the Empower team since its inception in 2000.

    Ms. Chan's involvement in the manufacturing business started at a young age with her family's garment factory. After graduating with a Commerce degree from St. Mary's University specializing in accounting and finance, she was awarded the Accounting Manager position at Instabox Vancouver Ltd., a corrugated box manufacturer. Before joining Empower, Ms. Chan served a term with Amipo Electronics Manufacturing Ltd as the financial controller.

  • Kenneth Ho – VP, Research and Development
    Kenneth Ho is the Vice President, Research and Development at Empower Technologies. Having been with the company since its inception, Mr. Ho's ideas are backed by a solid background in computer engineering and product development. Prior to joining Empower, he was the Director of Research & Development at Seanix Technology Inc. a B.C.-based PC manufacturer where he led a team of design engineers develop PC products including system main boards, system BIOS, AGP video cards and system chassis. His value input provided structure to the overall system, ensuring success across the client architecture. Mr. Ho also has extensive product engineering and project management as a result of his five years at Everex System Inc.

Board of Directors

  • Edward Bagg – Director
    Mr. Bagg has over 14 years, experience in the technology industry. Since 1989, he has been working for Epson Canada Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Seiko Epson Corporation of Japan . Since 1999, he has been the Business Development Manager for the EBS Group of Epson Canada Ltd. From 1992 to 1999, Mr. Bagg was the OEM Account Manager for Western Canada , representing Epson's full line of products. From 1991 to 1992, he was the Customer Assurance Supervisor/Service Manager in the region of Western Canada . Mr. Bagg has a Bachelor of Science degree in E-Business from the University of Phoenix , and also holds a Master of Business Administration in Global Management from the University of Phoenix . Mr. Bagg will devote such time as required to fulfil his duties as a director of the Company, which is estimated to be less than 5% of his time. 

  • Steve Gupta – Director
    Mr. Gupta was appointed a Director of the Company effective May 16, 2006.  Mr. Gupta has been the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Easton 's Group of Hotels and the Easton 's Group of Companies since 1979.  The Easton 's Group of Companies specializes in major hotel development and owns and operates a number of hotels in Canada under the Marriott Fairfield Inn & Suites, Courtyard by Marriott, Hilton Garden Inn, Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites and Quality Inn brand names.  Mr. Gupta is also a member of the Board of the St. Michaels Hospital Foundation and is a past member of the board of Centenary Hospital , the CNIB and the College of Pharmacists .  Mr. Gupta serves as Chairman of the Choice Hotels Franchisee Advisory Board and Chairman of the Franchisee Advisory Council for the Canadian Franchise Association.  Mr Gupta is the chairman and founder of the Rajesh Gupta Charitable Foundation, a federally incorporated Canadian charity.  He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Punjab University in India and had studied toward a Masters Degree in Mathematics in Kurukshetra University in India .

  • Charles Walker – Director
    Mr. Walker was appointed a Director of the Company in August 2005 and has been President of The Walker Group since 1968.  The Walker Group provides various financial services to clients and has been an innovator of service programs and affinity products in the automotive, electronics and appliance industries throughout North America .  The Walker Group also created the Buyer's Assurance Program for American Express.  Mr. Walker was part of the management team that built Seaboard Life Insurance Company, where he initiated the SAL Group, one of Canada 's leading providers of creditor group life and disability insurance, and related after-sale products for the automobile, heavy truck and recreational vehicle markets.  Prior to this, he held management positions with Ford Credit.  Since February 2000, Mr. Walker has served as a Director of Megawheels.com Inc., a public corporation (CDNX now TSX Venture Exchange).  In addition, Mr. Walker has served as a Director of BID.Com International Inc., a publicly listed company on the Toronto Stock Exchange and NASDAQ, since February 1999, and Director of SCS Solars Computing Systems Inc., a company engaged in the online travel and software business, since April 1999.  Mr. Walker served on the Board of Directors of the BC Lions for nine years and was President of the team in 1989.  He also was Chair of the Papal Visit to Vancouver and has served on the Board of St. Vincent's Hospital.
